Greetings! My name is Hazel Buggs.

I am presently a candidate for MAYOR OF MELBOURNE FLORIDA in the upcoming 2020 General Election.

       I was born May 2nd and a native of Eastman, Georgia. I spent ten years in Boston, Massachusetts where my community activities began. I am the ninth oldest sibling of fourteen siblings and have resided in Melbourne, Florida for over 35 years. I was married to the late Reverend Jesse E. Buggs, Sr. for 27 years, have two adult daughters, five grandchildren and a loving puppy named “Valentino”.  I have a Master of Theology in Christian Education and received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity for my Community and Ministry services.

Community Involvement

      I have over 30 years of community service. My involvement include:   the Community Action Board to the Brevard County Commissioners, Melbourne Downtown Redevelopment Advisory Board to the Melbourne City Council, University Park Elementary School Advisory Council, Powell Subdivision Neighborhood Watch Committee.  Life member and former Officer of the Boston NAACP Branch and the South Brevard Branch NAACP, former Vice President and charter member of the National Congress of Black Women, founder of the Minister’s Wives Alliance of Melbourne, founder of the South Melbourne Neighborhood Redevelopment Extension Committee, member of the BTAN/Stop HIV Stigma Coalition, Friends of the Dr. Martin Luther King Library, Push Back Community Alliance and Concerned Citizens Committee of Melbourne. 

Work Experiences

My work experience includes:  Real Estate Agent, Substitute Teacher for the Brevard Public Schools, Harris Corporation, Office Manager for the Boston NAACP, Senior Staff Assistant/Special Project for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Cambridge, MA, Supervisor of Support Staff for the College of Business, Northeastern University-Boston MA, and business owner of Betterwear Consignment and Sister to Sister Unique International Boutique. 
In addition, I have produced and hosted several community talk shows, “Voice and Conscience, a Radio Ministry called, “A Time of Refreshing” and was the CEO and Producer of my own gospel television program, “The Hazel Buggs Gospel Hour”. 

Accomplishments

Some of my greatest accomplishments were initiating the idea and serving as the Program Chair commemorating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with the first Peace March in Melbourne, which drew over 5,000 participants throughout Brevard County.  Also, coordinated one of the largest fundraisers for the Mt. Zion Northeast Coast Missionary Baptist Association, raising over $50,000.  I have received many plaques and certificates for my service from:  Brevard County Weed and Seed, Powell Subdivision Neighborhood Watch, Adult and Family Literacy Program, South Brevard Branch NAACP, Brevard County Citizens Academy, Florida Small Business Development Center, Brevard County Library System, United Way of Brevard, National Center for Citizen Involvement, Hands Across America, City of Melbourne and a Leadership Award for Service in Brevard County from MT. Moriah A.M.E. Church, Cocoa, FL.

     I am a visionary, challenge driven, professional servant leader in both civic and community arenas.I am a natural and persuasive communicator recognized for my keen ability to energize and inspire individuals towards achieving a common goal and excel in creating consensus among divergent groups.
